A Message from the Senior Class Advisors :

Congratulations, Class of 2008! The last four years have been
exceptional and full of accomplishment - not only academically
but athletically and socially as well. As a class we've set
fundraising goals and surpassed them. Do you remember these
activities - the beach towel sale, a calendar raffle, UNO Nights,
Entertainment Books, a magazine drive, Friendly's Nights, Flag
Football games of '07 and '08, MRHS bracelets, Porchetta
Dinners, and a Hole-In-One Contest where the winner drove
away in a brand new Scion? These fundraising activities allowed
the Class of 2008 to put a record amount of money into their
treasury that provided for an event-filled senior year. You can
now look forward to enjoying your fifth year reunion as well.
Upon graduation, you will become proud members of a
Minnechaug alumni group that now totals nearly 1 1 ,000! It is
our hope, as your advisors, that you will continue to stay
connected to your classmates, to your school, and to your
community. We wish you the very best and brightest of futures.

Gary Petzold (MRHS Class of 68)
Elaine (Struzziero) Gernux (MRHS Class of 73)

Dear Class of 2008,

Cong - : ilations on the completion of your K-12 experience. What
may have seemed to you a very long process will actually seem like a
blink of an eye in just a few short years.

I must admit that your yearbook theme is an intriguing one.
Seeing "The Big Picture" is not an easily acquired skill, but a very
important one. Allow me to explain.

From my perspective, I have seen many people make important
choices affecting their lives without considering "The Big Picture".
Your theme speaks to the need for using good planning before
reaching important decisions. All of you will be making many
decisions in the next several years that will impact your lives for a very
long time. Before you make them, consider these suggestions: 1) stop
and think about everything that can go both right and wrong, i.e.
explore all the options; 2) utilize your resources wisely and maximize
your skills to their potential; 3) trust your instincts and learn from
mistakes; and 4) most importantly, understand that no decision can be
made without keeping your eyes wide open. If you follow what I have
written, then you will see "The Big Picture" more clearly.

I hope that your time at Minnechaug has been both positive and
productive. We are a better school because you walked our halls.

Best wishes in the years ahead.

Go Falcons!

Sincerely,

Paul C. Gagliarducci, Ed.D.

A Message from the Principal

u ever tried to complete a puzzle without seeing the picture on the
front oft!" box? It is nearly impossible. The little pieces make no sense. You might
be able to see that a particular piece is brown or green or be able to recognize it as
the stem of a flower or a part of some animal's nose. But for the most part the pieces
are a confusing mess; you can't connect one piece to the next.

For an underclassman, making sense of high school and life in general is very
similar to piecing together a puzzle without seeing the box. For an underclassman,
life can be a confusing jumble of academics, extra-curriculars, and perhaps sports. It
is difficult to see the relationship between one's day-to-day pursuits and the big picture
of one's life.

It is only when you graduate from high school, I think, that you finally get a
glimpse of the big picture of your life. The puzzle of your life is taking shape; the
pieces are more recognizable; they make sense. You are connecting one piece to
another. You understand why you had to put together that Lit and Comp portfolio
during your freshman year. You understand why your coach and teachers pushed you
when you didn't feel like you had anymore to give. As a high school graduate, you
have a stronger sense of your interests, your skills, and your character. You are
starting to know what you want out of life.

Of course, the puzzle of your life is never complete. None of us ever get to see
the "Big Picture" on the front of the box. As you grow and learn, you will always add
new pieces and new dimensions to your puzzle. Still, the Big Picture is a perfect
theme for your year book, as it will forever provide you with a way to see and
remember the Big Picture of your high school experience.

Congratulations and best wishes to you as you start your life as alumni of
Minnechaug Regional High School.

League Finalists

Our whole team would like to start off by thanking our coaching staff.
Coach Donovan, Coach Griffin and Coach Gallagher have really pushed us
to our full potential this year and I know that this year will be one that the
Senior class will remember forever. The Captains this year included Zack
Ouellette, Mike Lavoie, Bryan Kemple and Chris Patrone. What was more
important to the Captains this year than winning was making sure that we
have good people on our team. The Captains did a great job keeping
everyone focused. When we did start to slip our Coaches were there to
point us in the right direction. This year our Varsity team was 5-6. There
are some games that slipped away from us that we definitely should have
won but the important thing is that we always pick each other up when
we're down to fight for next week's game. There were a great deal of
standout players this year, perhaps too many to mention. Our defensive
line had outstanding talent and drive, and team Captain Bryan Kemple
always made sure to keep them focused. Mike Lavoie did an amazing job
at free safety this year, always coming up and making big plays when we
needed it most. Junior players such as Mike Lynch, Mike Szydlowski, Dave
Soucie, Phil McLean and Anthony Daniel all had a phenomenal season.
Every one of them, along with many others, is going to be able to put
together a great team next year. The most memorable game this year was
the Holyoke game. It was pouring rain all night but that just seemed to fuel
our players' drive. Holyoke scored first but we didn't let that dictate that
game. We kept fighting regardless of the weather and came out on top.
Lastly, I would like to mention our Freshman team. Our entire varsity
team congratulates them; not for having a lossless season, but simply for
being a great group of kids. If they all keep working as hard as they are
now, they'll be seeing the Friday night lights sooner than they think.

Famous for their crowd pumping performances, the
Minnechaug Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders
continue to uplift the spirits of both the fans and players.
Despite a few injuries, the cheerleaders had a successful
year throughout the football and basketball seasons. Both
on and off the field, the cheerleaders portrayed good
attitudes and hard work ethics while still managing to
have a great time. Not only did they master their
routines, but also the tradition of the spirit sticks. Varsity
Captains Jen Farrell, Lisa Pandolfi, and Marissa Muns
along with Junior Varsity Captain Melissa Taylor hope
to lead the squads into winning yet another Western
Mass. and Pioneer Valley Championship title. With the
help and support from Varsity Coach Christina
Nordstrom and Junior Varsity Coach Kristen Brown,
the girls have impressed not only themselves, but also the
entire Minnechaug population with their never-ending
high spirits. Go Falcons!

he Boys Soccer program was prepared and stood strong throughout
the entire season from all three levels. The Varsity team was
tremendous with a finishing record of l 3- 2- 3. The talent of the team
was shown through every game the team stepped onto the field. With
winning league and being ranked the second seed going into playoffs
they were seemingly unstoppable. Throughout the entire season
Varsity managed to recieve no yellow cards. Captains Nicholas
Manolakis, Adam Pelloso, and Daniel Vivian led their team through a
winning season with a valiant effort from every single player. Along
with their great leadership, Nicholas Manolakis and Adam Pelloso were
awarded All-League, along with Sean Sullivan and Jhonathon Gomez.
Gomez was also awarded the honor of All-State. Coach Rich Burgess
and Captains John Costello and Aidan Burke led the Junior Varsity
team through a competitive season with a record of 15- 2- 1. The
Freshman Minnechaug Falcons also had a successful season with a
record of 11-3-1. Led by Coach Mark Netkovic and Captains Zach
Coopee, Daniel Chmura, and Chad Dakin, their season dominated and
showed their hard work throughout the season. They continually did
their best and their record truly reflects that amount of work put in.
The Minnechaug Falcons succeeded in all three levels of soccer and
showed their will and determination to play and win. The heart and
talent each player illustrates at every practice and game exemplifies the
strong future for Minnechaug Boys Soccer for years to come.

Western Mass. Runner-Up

The Minnechaug Girls Varsity Soccer team was explosive and
ended the season with a bang. They had a rewarding set of
games that paved the way to the Western Mass Finals and
becoming the runner-ups. The Varsity team was coached by
Nundi Goncalves and Paul Lopes. The team was led by
Captains Olivia Clark, Amanda Markham, Lauren Yelinek, and
Senior Tanya Vital. Varsity ranked first seed going into the
playoffs finishing with a final record of 1 1-0-6. Together the
team dominated against most opponents during their season.
The Junior Varsity coached by Jen Genevevo had a wonderful
season with Captains Stefanie Vartanian and Sarah White. They
ended with a record of 14-2-2. The teammates all agree that by
working together and working with their coach helped them
improve their season and their phenomenal record. The
Freshman team coached by Brian Machia also had an awesome
season, finishing with a record of 9-2-3 with captains Tara
Murphy, and Amanda McLaughlin. The Freshman girls have
proved to be worthy competitors for the opposing teams and
have shown to be a big part of the future of the Minnechaug
girls soccer team. The team will hopefully continue carrying on
with the accomplishments and impressive records they have
made this year.

Bis Strides, Quick Pace!

All it takes is all you've got." This quote used by our Girls
Cross Country team reflects on their hard work and dedication
this season. Led by Coach "Chill" Hill and Co-Captains Abby
Dunklee and Maria Sheehan the girls pushed through a rough
season, coming to a positive end with a 5-4 record. They
defeated Westfield and Longmeadow in their league meets.
Outstanding member Kyra Burnett beat her personal record
here at Minnechaug. The future looks strong as Freshman
Molly Meszaros finished in the top group. Led by new Coach,
Charlie Muse and Tri-Captains Nick Baird, Kyle Roy and Rick
Sobey, the boys turned their 3-6 record from the last three years
into a 6-3 this season. They defeated Westfield, Longmeadow
and Cathedral in league meets at home. The boys took second
place at PVIAC Championships with Pat Regan finishing seond
overall and Chris Trajkovski taking fourth. They also had their
first divison win in four years. Both our teams were especially
proud of our grueling win against Longmeadow after a confusing
series of tying, losing, and finally winning all in the same day.
Our team was cheered on by "The Bee", team member Chris
Trajkovski, who kept our spirits high all season. Great job and
keep running Falcons!!!

Big Hearts, Lots of Play

1 he Girls Varsity Volleyball Team had a season full of
dedication and hard work. With a record of 7 wins and 12 losses
it was a rebuilding year with six returning players. Senior
Captains Nicole Sawyer and Ashley Stolarik helped lead the team
by example. Coach Jarvis, Coach Taylor, and Coach Cofone
continued to encourage the team's enthusiasm and will to play.
Through various drills in practice their skills improved with each
and every game. The Varsity Volleyball Team was honored to be
invited to the First Annual Volleyball Showcase of Champions at
Holyoke Community College. They faced Joseph Case High, a
team from Swansea, MA (upper Cape Cod) taking them to five
games. The intensity and improvement that the Varsity team
showed throughout all five games showed their will to play.
Regardless of their record the team shows potential and the heart
to play. The Junior Varsity team showed their strength with a
record of 1 1 wins and 7 losses, and 10 new Freshmen. Captains
Amanda Albertson and Brittany Willard led the team with their
confidence and aggressiveness. With lots of young talent the
Junior Varsity Volleyball Team shows potential for the future.
The girls volleyball program, both Varsity and Junior Varsity
teams, will be a strong force for many years to come.

The Field Hockey team was the emblem of teamwork and
commitment both on and off the field. The team was led by Coach
Sherri Dungan and Assistant/Junior Varsity Coach Wendy Root,
along with Captains Patricia Perkins and Lauren Giacomoni. They
lost four great players but were able to fill in those spots quite
efficiently. The players stepped up when it came to game time and
the team had great chemistry throughout the season. The six Seniors
on the team strove for excellence during their last year on the team
and shined as competitors. Goalie, Freshman Maddie Carpenter, did
a great job this year and made some incredible saves. The Captains
always stayed positive and kept the team morale high. Lauren
Giacomoni and Aimee Donaruma worked great together on offense
while our defense, Shelby Trebbe, Brittany Dixon, and Patricia
Perkins stayed solid. The skillful midfield players, Audra Quintin,
Ally Hamill, and Angela Berthaume were also an important factor in
our team's success. Our record was 10-6-2. Our team made it into
the Western Mass. Tournament but unfortunately did not make it
past the quarter-finals. The Junior Varsity team, led by Wendy Root
and Captains Paige Feeney and Sarah Field, had an impressive
record of 12-2-2. The new players did a great job and have proved
themselves a force to be reckoned with for next year.

It was a very successful year for the Golf Team full
of victorious matches and medals won. Captains
Kyle Kszepka and Katie Coons led the Golf Team
to a 1 6 and 2 record this year which landed them
1st in the Valley Wheel. Junior and Captain Katie
Coons came in 2nd in the Western Mass. Girls
Individual with Sophomore Conley Jones close
behind her in 5th. While the girls placed well in their
matches, the boys weren't very far behind. Their
outstanding talent helped them to become the 1st
team to qualify for the Western Mass. Team
Champs. A valued member of the team, Senior
Dylan Gray, also received medals in 3 matches.
Much of our success can be attributed to our
inspiring coaches, Manuel and Girotti. This
triumphant season lights the way to a bright future
for our Golf Team.

Looking Forward

The Minnechaug Girls Gymnastics team flipped into
overdrive this season which led to vast improvements.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Cheryl Palm and
Assistant Coach Bree O'Neil, we advanced in our
sport throughout the season. The record of 4-9 is not
an appropriate way to label us. We demonstrated
immense dedication and perseverance to improve and
succeed. The goal was to give one-hundred percent
effort all of the time. If the scores didn't reflect the
effort that we put in, it was okay. Team Captains Jill
McDiarmid and Sarah Carlyle constantly motivated
the team to great achievements through their
leadership and enthusiasm. Kamilla Gamidova was an
outstanding asset to the team, as well. Freshmen that
were inexperienced at the beginning developed their
skills quickly throughout the season. Underclassmen
talent, strength and improvement render high
expectations and promise for next season.
